HOW DO THE OLYUSEI REMOTE SERVICES WORK
The client’s audiovisual technician, at the venue, will send the live audio and video to the Olyusei technician, who will be working at our hub. The signal can be sent via Zoom, MS Teams, vMix or any other videoconference platform.
The interpreters work at our facilities in Olyusei hub, where they will have technical assistance at all times and where they have all the necessary equipment to do their work in the best conditions.
Attendees can listen to the interpretation through the Olyusei mobile app or web app. The interpretation can also be integrated into Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams or in the streaming.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
-
- Broadband internet connection with Ethernet cable with at least 20MB upload and download. No wifi.
- Laptop at the event venue (Intel Core i5 or superior with 8 MB RAM), fully updated, as well as a videoconference platform, such as Zoom to send the audio and video to the interpreters.
- An external webcam with view of the speaker/stage (in order to receive the best possible video of the person/people speaking).
- Connection to the meeting room sound with a XLR, jack o RCA cable.
- Access to the PC or laptop with the presentations.
- A technician to be in contact with.
+ How do we send the live signal?
We will send you a list of the necessary sound and video equipment, and our technician will work with yours to send the signal.
+ Can I use receivers in the fully remote system?
As no technician is available to travel in the fully remote system, the use of receivers is not permitted. The other technological solutions may be used together: the Olyusei app, embedding in the client’s app, streaming, hybrid service.
+ I want to stream, do I need extra sound or video equipment?
No, if you’re going to stream, you can send us the signal using the equipment you have. Our technicians will help you to set everything up.
+ What is the latency of the mobile app and web app?
The mobile app has a minimum latency ranging from 500 to 900 milliseconds, depending on the connectivity of each device.
The web app’s latency is somewhat higher, as it uses HTML technology (website), so the latency depends on the player used on the device itself. In any case, it never reaches above 2 seconds, so the user experience is not affected.
+ Is it really necessary to have wired internet connection?
Yes, because this service uses a signal sent via the internet. To prevent the signal from cutting out and ensure it is properly received by the interpreters, the only way is to use an Ethernet cable. We require a minimum bandwidth of 20 Mbps with symmetrical connectivity.
+ Can attendees at the event use Wi-Fi?
Yes, they may use the Wi-Fi provided at the event, which must be stable in order to receive the translation without the signal cutting out. The bandwidth must be enough for everyone to connect without problems or the signal cutting out.
An alternative option may be for users to use their own data.
+ Why does the translation cut out?
It may be because the Wi-Fi bandwidth is too low. For example, if it’s a public Wi-Fi connection, there may be several people accessing the same network and downloading large files such as films.
Another reason could be that the Wi-Fi has a firewall. We always recommend testing in advance in order to tweak settings or find alternatives.
+ How do we make sure to avoid problems?
The service is provided without any problems in almost all locations. Olyusei has a connectivity document with the internet access ports that must be accessible. Our IT technician can always call the location’s network technician to arrange this part of the service.
+ Does the app require a lot of battery?
No. Since it can run in the background and with the phone on sleep mode, 8 hours of use tends to use up around 40% of a mid-range phone battery.
+ One of the speakers can’t make it to the event. What can we do?
Olyusei offers the option of a hybrid service and will extend support to remote participants at no additional cost, so that last-minute changes of this kind can be managed quickly and easily. We are able to do this through our own video conferencing platform or using a platform of the client’s choice.
+ How do I inform attendees about using the app?
We always send a poster with QR codes for downloading the app for iOS and Android, as well as the individual codes for accessing the interpreting channels. The poster reminds participants to bring their headphones.
On event days, the poster can be projected at the start of meetings, banners can be displayed and/or reminders can be sent out prior to the event.
+ What if somebody forgets their headphones?
Olyusei can provide complimentary headphones (mini jack), as well as iPhone and Android type C adapters. Ask us for information.
